Trampolines – training and competition

Trampolines can be for fun – or they can be deadly serious.

Children who get the bug for trampolining from the trampolines in their back garden can take things further by finding trampoline training sessions in their local area. There are many benefits from being taught to trampoline properly, including:

  • Techniques – learning the right techniques is vital for good trampolining. Knowing how to bounce properly, and how to land correctly can make a big difference to how much you enjoy your trampolining.
  • Responsible jumping – trampolines are great fun but they can also be dangerous of safety rules aren’t followed. Learning to use your trampoline in a controlled environment can show you and your children how important it is to abide by the safety rules.
  • Clothing – trampolines perform best if you’re wearing the right clothing. Sports socks or specialist trampoline shoes are advisable, and all jewellery should be removed to avoid accidents.
  • Safety off the trampoline – it’s as important to be safe when you’re not on the trampolines as it is when you’re jumping. Trampoline lessons will teach you how to “spot” for the person who is jumping and highlight the dangers of things like going underneath the jumping bed when someone is on the trampoline.

Trampolines – competition

As part of trampoline training you can take graded exams and enter competitions. As with other sports such as gymnastics and diving, there are several grades you can take, each with its own set of jumps and moves to perform. Competitions and grade exams are judged by fully trained experts who are looking for accurately-performed elements, and also for style. There are different requirements for different age groups and your trainer will be able to tell you which level is most appropriate for you. To find somewhere that has trampolines and offers training, contact the Sports and Leisure facility of your local council.
