Trampolines – The Golden Ticket

The popularity of gymnastics and trampolines is well known in the UK but the support of the British athletes at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 will be hit by a distinct shortage of tickets.

In the grand scheme of things, trampolines are a fairly recent innovation and their introduction to the Olympic Games only transpired 8 years ago at the Sydney Olympics. Fans of the trampolines and other gymnastic events are likely to be disappointed if they hope to show their support in Beijing this summer as a ticketing shortfall for those in the UK means that the events are already sold out or selling out fast.

Trampolines – Top Draw Gymnastics

Trampolines enjoy massive popularity in the UK and this is transferred into the numbers who take up the sport professionally. The UK is considered to have a very capable gymnastic team and the following that the sport gets from fans is vast. Trampolining is one the most popular gymnastic pursuits and the fact that there are insufficient tickets available for the Olympic Games in Beijing this summer will mean many will have to watch the events on TV as opposed to cheering the team on in the stadium.

Trampolines – An Olympic Intervention

The ticketing crisis, that has seen many events being provided with a single digit amount of tickets being allocated to the entire UK, has led to Olympic Minister, Tessa Jowell, to step in. She managed to secure an extra 5000 tickets for the UK in November but even this is seen as inadequate in terms of the amount of support UK athletics receives. Popular events like trampolining are already thought to have sold out, so, people may need to go out and buy trampolines of their own to keep themselves entertained. There are a number of statistics that highlight the ticketing crisis more clearly:

  • 75% of the 7 million tickets have been allocated to Chinese nationals.
  • Swimming, Cycling and Gymnastics have already sold out.
  • Britain has been allocated only between 6 and 15 tickets for each track cycling session.
