Trampolines – Manoeuvres And Methods

Trampolines and trampolining is, in essence, an enjoyable activity for all the family. Delving deeper into the pursuit reveals a sport filled with dedicated athletes and skilled manoeuvres.

Trampolining has been recognised as an official sport for some time now and, given the technical skill and fitness levels required, this is of little surprise. Trampolines are a great way for amateurs to have a good time and boost their fitness but for the professionals, the emphasis is on the aesthetic excellence of their routines to impress judges.

Trampolines – A Skilled Pursuit

Trampolines are, obviously, a simple contraption but this belies the technical difficulty associated with the manoeuvres of professional trampoline athletes. There are 10 combinations of contact with the trampoline bed combining varying rotations, shapes and twists. On competitive trampoline events, take off and landings will consist of one of four positions, these being:

  • Feet
  • Back
  • Seat
  • Front

Trampolines – Types Of Competition

Trampolining competitions are generally separated into 3 distinct varieties with each carrying their own routine methods and requirements. The 3 main types are:

  • Individual Trampolines – In this discipline there is a single athlete who will perform their routine to try and achieve the highest scores from the judges marking their performance.
  • Synchronised Trampolines – In synchronised trampolining, two athletes perform the exact same routine of ten skills at the same time on adjacent trampolines. Athletes are judged both for their individual performance and their level of synchronicity.
  • Double Mini-Trampolines – These trampolines are smaller than competition standard trampolines. It has a sloped end and a flat bed. The gymnasts run up and jump on to the sloping end and then jump on to the flat part before dismounting on to a mat. Skills are performed during the jumps or as they dismount.
